Death’s Head Hawkmoth — Hand-Set in a 10×10 Deep Box Frame

The Death’s Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos) is one of the most dramatic and instantly recognisable moths in the world — named for the striking skull-like marking on its thorax that has fascinated and unsettled observers for centuries. Capable of squeaking audibly when disturbed and notorious for raiding beehives to steal honey, it achieved cultural immortality as the emblem of The Silence of the Lambs — but its natural history is every bit as compelling as its mythology.

This specimen has been hand-set by our expert entomologists in our UK studio, positioned to display the full wingspan and the iconic skull marking at its best. Mounted in a deep box frame with acid-free matboard and satin-finished acrylic, it is a refined display piece that works equally as a wall hanging or freestanding feature.

  • Frame: Satin-finished acrylic
  • Mount: 300 GSM acid-free card stock with 2mm bevelled edge matboard border
  • Display: Self-standing or wall-hanging bracket
  • Dimensions: 10×10cm

As a natural specimen, subtle variation in colour, pattern, and size is inherent — no two moths are exactly alike, though each falls within the morphological parameters for the species.

A breathtaking entomology statement piece and the perfect gift for any nature lover, film enthusiast, or natural history collector. Free UK delivery on orders over £50.
