This fossilised ammonite shell belonged to Mantelliceras, a genus of fast-moving marine cephalopods from the Jurassic period, approximately 180 million years ago. Displayed on a bespoke oak base stand.

Coiled in a tight spiral with finely ribbed whorls, the shell once housed a buoyant, swimming animal related to modern squid. Its structure reflects a life spent navigating ancient seas, using jet propulsion and chambered buoyancy to pursue prey or evade predators.

Discovered in chalk-rich deposits of northern Africa, the specimen has been carefully cleaned and conserved, preserving the distinctive form of a once-abundant inhabitant of prehistoric oceans.

Base: Solid Smooth Grain European Oak.
Mount: Stainless Steel
Specimen Dimensions: 113mm h x 110mm w
Total Dimensions: 220mm h x 120mm w
