This specimen represents a jaw section of Mosasaurus, a formidable marine reptile of the Late Cretaceous, dating to around 70 million years ago. Composed from multiple elements of the same species and locality, it has been assembled to form an anatomically accurate reconstruction. The section is mounted on a bespoke oak display stand.
The jaw preserves the species’ characteristic robust, conical teeth, deeply set within the bone to withstand the immense stresses of predation. These teeth were specialized for seizing and dispatching prey ranging from fish and ammonites to other marine reptiles. The scale and alignment of the dentition illustrate the crushing force of a bite designed for ambush hunting in open seas.
Recovered from the rich phosphate deposits of North Africa, each component has been meticulously cleaned, stabilised, and arranged to maintain both structural integrity and scientific authenticity, an evocative reminder of one of the ocean’s apex predators.
