Tektite

This Tektite has been mounted in a museum quality glass dome bell jar. The specimen is a natural glass formed from terrestrial material melted and ejected during a meteorite impact event.

Unlike standard meteorites, Tektites originate from Earth, formed when a large meteorite strikes the surface at high velocity. The intense heat and pressure melt surrounding rock and soil, which causes this molten material to be thrown into the atmosphere, cooling rapidly as it falls back to the ground, forming glassy, often aerodynamic shapes.

This tektite preserves the story of a violent impact and the transformation of Earth’s surface materials through cosmic forces. Collected from known strewn fields, it offers a rare glimpse into the dynamic interaction between meteorites and our planet.
